Asking the Right Questions About Your Home Renovation
Knowing what to ask and when to ask it will help ensure you make a smart, informed decision when deciding who to hire for your next renovation project. Asking the right questions will help you get to know your renovator and clarify any potential concerns.
One very important yet often overlooked question involves liability. Does your renovator have workers compensation and liability insurance? In the case that someone was hurt on your job site, you must know who will be held ultimately responsible.
The next step is to ask your renovator for references so you can check on their work from previous customers. Make sure to ask references what was done and if the job was completed in a timely manner. Did the renovator provide an open line of communication and did everything come in on budget? Find out if the previous customer had any issues with the renovator and if so, how was the problem addressed.
Before making your final decision, ask your potential renovator about their previous experience. If it is a kitchen renovation you need, find out what type of experience they have in that specific field. Also check if they provide warranty on their work and what the recourse will be is something is not done to your satisfaction.
Asking these questions won’t necessarily guarantee a problem free renovation, but it will ensure you are working with someone you trust and who will work with you to provide the best possible outcome.
