At Harwood builders our people are the key to our success and the success of your project. We employ only the best and most knowledgeable tradespeople and perform most of the work required for construction and renovation projects inhouse. This ability allows us more control over budget and timeline. Our superior expertise and attention to the smallest details exceeds our clients expectations time and again.

Wayne Sage is the owner and president of Harwood Design Builders. Wayne’s construction career spans almost three decades now. For ten years starting in the trenches he worked his way from site labourer to site superintendent before moving on to construction management and project management where he spent another ten years perfecting his skills before starting his own firm. Along the way he also received a diploma in building technology and business management. This well rounded and vast experience is the foundation of Harwood Design Builders business model. Notable highlights of Wayne's career include:

  • The renovation and restoration of a 1940’s 110 foot sailboat in the Caribbean
  • Renovation of Vancouver heritage building to a recording studio for Canada’s biggest rock superstar
  • Construction of some of the most beautiful timber frame homes along the coast of B.C. which have been featured in many publications
  • Commissioned by the University of Winnipeg and Department of Fisheries and Oceans to design construct a portable laboratory inside a shipping container which was sent to the North Pole for scientific exploration

Wayne also believes in giving back to the industry which he enjoys so much, and for three years headed the building division of Winnipeg Habitat for Humanity. In those three years Wayne oversaw the construction of the new restore facility, 24 Winnipeg Habitat Homes and a new subdivision. He also developed a prebuild training program for the hundreds of volunteers under his direction which was adopted by Habitat for Humanity USA for their volunteers and was a feature story in Habitat International Magazine.  He has also travelled to the USA to participate in the hurricane relief effort and was asked to captain Team Canada at the Jimmy Carter International Habitat Build.

Jeff Halstead is the General Foreman of Harwood and has over 20 years experience in residential construction and renovation. Jeff is known for his sense of humour and his incredible ability to think creatively when construction challenges arise. Subtrades and customers both comment on how his superior organizational skills ensure the job runs smoothly, without a hitch. His popularity with the subtrades and his ability to get the job done quickly and efficiently afford Harwood priority pricing because there is no wasted time and scheduling is typically seamless from one phase to the next.

Tony Lyons is the Finishing Foreman of Harwood and when you walk into your new living room, or sunroom, basement, or cottage, it's his amazing finishing work that makes a lasting impression. Tony is a true craftsman and has built custom cabinets, decorative niches and is an artist when it comes to reproducing the details in heritage homes.
